Dave Goulson |
"Impacts of pesticides and other stressors on bee health"
|
School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex |
Prof. Dave Goulson studied biology at Oxford University, and then did his PhD on butterfly ecology at Oxford Brookes University. He worked at the Universities of Southampton and Stirling before moving to University of Sussex in 2013, where he is Professor of Biology. He has studied the ecology, behaviour and conservation of bumblebees and other insects for 25 years, and has published over 200 refereed papers.
He is also author of the bestselling "A Sting in the Tale" (Jonathan Cape, 2013), a popular science book about bumblebees, and of "Bumblebees; their behaviour, ecology and conservation" (Oxford University Press, 2010). In 2006 he founded the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a membership-based charity that has grown to have ~8,000 members.

“Factors adversely effecting colony health in the US”
|
Department of Entomology, University of Maryland
|
Prof. Denis vanEngelsdorp carried out his PhD in the Pennsylvania State University (2011), and at present he is Assistant Research Scientist in the University of Maryland. He is mainly concerned with honey bee health and losses, and has been invited to give dozens of talks and to participate in workshops and presentations to a wide audience of national and International organizations in the US, Canada, Europe, South America Dubai and South Africa. A recent talk is seen on TED.com (http://www.ted.com/talks/dennis_vanengelsdorp _a_plea_for_bees.html).
He has published more than 40 peer-review publications dealing with honey bee diseases and their consequences.

Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter |
"Impact of land use change on bee diversity and crop pollination services"
|
Department of Animal Ecology and Tropical Biology, University of Würzburg |
Prof. Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter presented his PhD at Göttingen University. Since 2010 he chairs the Department of Animal Ecology and Tropical Biology (Biocenter), University of Würzburg (Germany). He has worked on different issues of animal ecology and agroecology, including plant-pollinator interactions, crop and wild plant pollination services, honeybee ecology, conservation biology and management of protected areas.
He is author of more than 125 peer-reviewed publications. His last papers, focused on wild and domestic pollinators, appeared in TREE, PNAS, Science and other prestigious journals, and have received particular attention from many colleagues.

Peter Rosenkranz |
"Parasite-host-interactions during the reproductive cycle of the honey bee mite Varroa destructor"
|
Landesanstalt für Bienenkunde, Universität Hohenheim |
Dr. Peter Rosenkranz studied Biology at the University of Tübingen and obtained his Doctoral degree in 1991. After a postdoc period at the Bavarian Institute of honey bee breeding, he is at present director of the Apicultural State Institute at the University of Hohenheim. His main research activities focus on parasites of the honey bees, in particular in host parasite interactions between honey bees and Varroa mites.
He was and is partner or coordinator in many national and international research projects, including the long-term project on colony losses in Germany and two EU projects. He has published plenty of papers in both, scientific and beekeeping journals and is member of the editoral board of the scientific journal Apidologie.

“Neotropical bees as pollinators and their services: trends in a rapidly changing world”
|
PNVS na Universidade Federal Rural do Semiárido, Universidade de S. Paulo
|
Prof. Vera Lucia Imperatriz-Fonseca graduated in Biology at the University of Sao Paulo in 1968, where she also presented her PhD in 1975. Her activities have been mainly related to the development of scientific apiculture in Brazil, including both the foundation of research groups and a remarkable activity in beekeeping policy within national and international committees.
Her research activity is mainly concerned with the study of pollinators and the interactions between pollinators and environmental factors. He has published dozens of research papers on these subjects. At present she is Senior Professor in the Institute of Biology of the University of Sao Paulo.
